Research & Supporting Social Innovators


Social innovation research and supporting social innovators in Fuping has been positioned as the production and communication of social innovation knowledge and the nurturing of social innovative talents. As one of the important directions for Fuping’s development, this operation is conducted relying on FupingResearch Centre on Social Innovation and Social Investment. Our current programs includePathways to Higher Education (PHE in short) aiming at capacity building for poor university students and the LEAD &Beyond for nurturingexcellent leaders in social innovation.


Threedirections for social innovation study and talent nurturing in Fuping:

  1. Conclude and summarize social innovation knowledge produced by Fuping, formand disseminate the social innovation knowledge products of Fuping;
  2. Research the business model of social enterprises and assess the social impact of social enterprises;
  3. Establish the platform for discovering and nurturing social innovation leaders and building up the communication and action network for social innovation practitioner and supporters.


LEAD & Beyond Program

The LEAD &Beyond Program is launched by four agencies with long-term experience in social innovation as well as insight into this issue, namely Fuping Development Institute, Peking University Center for Nature and Society, the NPI and Shan Shui Conservation Center.

Relying on the experience gathered by the founding agencies in years of cross-sector experiment, this program aims at talent nurturing and involving masters from various academic circles and practice forerunners deeply.

The aim of LEAD & Beyond is to nurture a group of excellent social innovation leaders in economics, social issues and environmental balance and to build up a network for in-depth exchanges and actions between social innovation practitioner and supporters.

PHE Program

Pathway to Higher Education (PHE) is a program supported by the Ford Foundation aiming at capacity building for the poor college students in the middle and western regions of China. Fuping Development Instituteplay asthe general executive party for project coordination and management. The PHE was kicked off in 2002 and currently is in phase III. With innovation practices, this program hopes to push forward higher education policy improvement in favor ofpoor students. Consequently, poor university students can afford higher education and fairness and equity can be achieved in Chinese higher education.
